RE: Winterizing Question

I think you got the main idea. As far as using your pump via a bypass hose to run pink through your lines, actually putting it in the freshwater tank isn't all that bad. I installed a hot water tank and a demand pump in my old PU. I didn't have a lot of room to work in and by the time I found a good place for the pump, it was well hidden. Drain the lines, bypass the HW tank and remove the plug to make sure it is dry. Blow the lines and you won't have to worry about the city water valve freezing on you and you will clear all the hot water lines too. Add enough pink to the fresh water tank to get the pump to run. Open the cold faucets until you see pink. Drain the remaining pink from your water tank back into the pink gallon jug. In the spring flush the system, sanitize the system and you are back in business.

RE: Cover for Travelstar 21SSO

Model #42240, Aqua Shed from RV Wholesalers. It says "up to 20ft" and I was a little worried but it fits like a glove. It covers the trailer, the propane tanks and I can't remember if we get it over the spare or not. Last winter was our first year covering and I wouldn't purchase the bigger one. It wouldn't hurt, you would just have that much more tarp to deal with.

RE: Best Electric Tongue Jack

For the sake of being different, I have an ADTH jack that has been great for me. It was less expensive than the others and holds up well. I thought I had a 3500 but it might be only a 3000 pound jack. Plenty of power for me. clickity click

RE: Question??

I wouldn't toss out the hybrid option just because someone told you that Yellowstone is a no no for soft sided campers. I believe the reality here is that there is only one campground there that does not allow these kind of trailers. We camped for a few days in our pop up years ago with no issue. See my sig, I pulled this trailer for a couple of years with a 4Runner which is very similar in size to the Envoy. Absolutely no problem, ever. We are planning on upgrading the trailer so that is why I am now driving the Tundra. Hybrids are not for everyone but they do afford a lot of interior space for the length.

RE: Going to look at trailers today.

Spade, it is almost impossible to justify a trailer purchase as saving money. Don't even attempt that. It is more of a life style kind of thing and if your wife hasn't ever camped, it could be iffy. I have done the B&B thing but I prefer getting into the out of doors. Spade, you bring up some of your "fears" and they are concerns that we all have, or at least had when we first started out. Most here have graduated up to TT's having done the tent camping thing, the PU thing and like myself, the hybrid thing. It wasn't just hook up a 25 footer and hit the road. That said, it isn't nearly as impossible as it first sounds. Nothing wrong with buying used but finding a unit that meets your wants will be the challenge. Buying new will cost more and finding that perfect trailer will also be a challenge but the search should be more enjoyable. Good luck to both of you.

RE: Plumbing Question

Arizona Guide brings up a very good point. Those "easy" pex fittings aren't as easy as they sound. I added a separate shower fitting in my trailer because I didn't like the hose coming from the bathroom faucet. It was easy in the sense that all the piping was exposed under the bathroom cabinet. When I started to cut into the pex lines I found it quite challenging to push the connectors into the pex. I used a hair dryer to warm things a bit and that really helped. The problem you might be facing is the limited space. This was a two hands kind of job and you had to be able to get plyers into the space. Good luck. Let us know how it all works out.

RE: Did you go from Coleman/Fleetwood to hybrid?

I don't think you should put so much emphasis on the time it takes to set up. I say that the hybrid is faster but that is not why we went in this direction. You need to look at ALL the advantages and ALL the disadvantages before you purchase an HTT. Many posters are hitting on them but you need to ask for a list. I have seen them posted before. I also agree with an earlier poster who suggested that you go down to a dealer and spend some time sitting in one to get the feel for the differences. We really like our set up but it does have some disadvantages too. Mileage is a big one and having to store it somewhere else is another. Our PU days were more hassle free in many regards. I do like the fridge though. Good luck with your decision.

RE: Poulsbo RV in Ridgefield, WA?

You don't have to look very far to hear horror stories about almost any company out there. I usually take these things with a grain of salt but after a while, you start to see a pattern and I am afraid that Poulsbo is that kind of dealer. I had a cousin that purchased a TT from them. She was working when her husband went down to pick it up. He brought it home and a few days later my cousin took a closer look and noticed that the colors inside weren't the same as she had remembered. They actually switched the trailer on them and it proved to be a real lemon. They were plagued with leaks and cabinets that wouldn't close and glass that was actually broken. And, they weren't very helpful in taking care of issues either. Years later I went in to Poulsbo in Poulsbo and asked to see a hybrid. They didn't have one on their lot at the time so the salesman proceeded to rip into the hybrids and told me I would be a fool to purchase one. He then directed me to his line of trailers that were on the lot. I directed myself to my car and hit the road. I will never deal with them, ever.

RE: My Towing Concerns

Yes! Now you don't have to worry about trading off the Burb. As long as you aren't pulling the trailer over the mountains on a regular basis, stick with what you have. I am on the other side of the mountains and the pass doesn't bother me half as much as the Vantage hill. How did you do on that?

RE: Need tips on PUP longevity

I purchased a used '87 Starcraft many years ago and had it for 17 years. We sold it for more than we paid for it and it was still in very good shape. Park it inside if you can but most of us just can't do that. Mine sat outside all of the time. If you want to protect your PU always be thinking of water. You have to manage anything that is wet. The canvas must be dry before storing and keep an eye on all the seams and edges. Caulk stuff up when needed and take care of any little boo boo that happens. Water is the enemy. The fact that you are asking this question tells me that you will be paying attention to the little things. Yours will last a long, long time because you are not just going to use your trailer, you are going to take care of it too. Have fun.

RE: Slanting Roof

The lifting system on a PU is something that needs to be maintained and all of them will need attention sooner or later. It sounds like the added weight is causing the problem. This is something that you can do. I had an older Starcraft and the cable system was all exposed under the trailer. It was easy to find, easy to figure out and easy to adjust. My son in law has a 90's vintage Jayco and his system is entirely inside the trailer hiding behind panels and cabinets. It was not real hard to get at but the adjustment was much more complicated because the cables were all twisted together so it was hard to find the one cable that went to the back right hand corner. It took more time but we got it adjusted. Read through the suggested links and jump in if you are comfortable. Otherwise, I am sure any shop will be glad to help you out.

RE: Newbie could use some help

Jeff, A mid 90's Jayco 1006 must have had a water tank. You say it has room for a couple of batteries. I am guessing that you are looking at the space where the water tank once was. Look outside for a water fill door. The tank would be right behind that. You can replace the tank and it shouldn't be that difficult. If you have a Jayco dealer close by great but if not, any trailer parts place will be able to help you. The heater does use up some propane but I have found that it drains the batteries faster. I wouldn't be all that concerned about the amperage of your converter. Get two good batteries and mount them on the tongue. Hook them into the system and your converter will charge them when you are plugged in. The converter converts the 110 to 12V DC which is what everything in the trailer runs on. Again, the no water tank has me confused. Do you have a sink and faucet? Open the drawers and trace the line that leads to the sink. I am looking forward to your reply.

RE: Filling propane tanks

The automatic switch over valve has a little window that shows red when the tank is empty. The tank is empty and it "auto-magically" switches to the spare. You switch the valve over to the reserve tank, turn off the empty tank, remove it and go get it filled. In Washington state it is against the law to fill a tank that is on the trailer. Perhaps this is only a county by county law but I know I can't do it any longer. I fill mine at a local gas station.

RE: Anyone use an Add-A-Room?

Perhaps my earlier post was a little too negative. Mine was an older version with a big zipper and it attached to the trailer with snaps. It was also very sturdy like most everything was back then. We are not the screen room kind of campers. We are seldom bothered by mosquitos and the worst we see are hornets in the late summer. I suppose if I had a room that was easy to pack and set up I would be telling a different story. Like most everything else, each of us have to make up our own minds. Take everything with a grain of salt.

RE: Anyone use an Add-A-Room?

I am with kknowlton. I had one and put it up once, in the driveway. As far as keeping the bugs out, it doesn't. Just way too much trouble for me and another thing to pack. Never missed it a bit.

RE: Water Heater Install

I installed a HW heater in my old Starcraft. You need to install a demand pump between your water tank and the city water connection. T off of the water line downstream from the city connection and run a line to your hot water tank, and return the hot water to the sink and any other devices you might have. When you are hooked to city water the pressure valve shuts out the water tank and the pump. Whey you unhook from the city water the pump will draw water from the tank when you open a valve (and switch on the pump). Make sure your master pump switch is placed in a strategic position and give this some thought. Mine was not accessable when the trailer was down and well, I learned a lesson on one trip that I would rather not go into at this time.:) This is a great mod that will really pay off. Good luck and feel free to PM me if you have any questions. Dick

RE: Equalizer towing system

I really like my equalizer. It is set and forget. On our last trip we were driving directly into very strong head winds. On sections of the trip these became side winds and the trailer didn't move at all even when passing semis. This is a great hitch. My brother has the chain type that requires a friction bar to "control" sway. He doesn't know when he should put it on and how tight to set it. He mostly drives without it. He also has to use a pry bar to snap his chain in place. The Equalizer is easy to hook up and is ALWAYS working. I don't have to guess at setting it up. Hooking up is very simple and the power jack makes it effortless. My dealer didn't carry the Equalizer but did get one and installed it. They didn't set it correctly and I had to readjust it at home. It isn't a difficult thing to do.

RE: 2003 Starcraft 21SSO

I have an '04 21 SSO and really like it. We had a starcraft PU for 17 years and I was very impressed with the quality construction. So far our SSO has been trouble free. You will like the slideout. It is amazing how something that moves out about 20 inches can afford so much room on the inside. Good Luck with your purchase.

Whoops. I just noticed that the jack doesn't have the ADTH in the description. It is the "A-Jack" you see just down the page a bit.
